The seeds for the 2019 edition of Monterrey Open are:
Monterrey Open kicks off with a strong lineup for a small, International WTA event. Angelique Kerber is the top seeded player this year. She played the final twice, but never managed to win the trophy. However, this year that might change, as she will not face any strong opponent in the main draw. The second seed is Garbine Muguruza, who showed pretty good performances this year, but nothing special. With zero titles or finals, the Spanish player is no threat for Kerber, even if both reach the final. Muguruza is also the defending champion.
Third seed is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who managed to win the title in Monterrey four times. She even defeated Kerber twice in the final in Mexico. However, Pavlyuchenkova’s only true performance this year came in Melbourne, where is reached the quarter finals. Apart from that, she played a mediocre tennis.
Victoria Azarenka is also present on the main draw and she hopes this small tournament will be another good chance to try to recover the lost form. There is still a lot of potential for Azarenka and also enough time to reach again the top 10.
